Lessons from building MiDAS, a home healthcare app for families, doctors and nurses
Healthcare apps earn trust by design. Six lessons from building MiDAS for Prana Healthcare: consent, private calls, AI that shows its work and more.

Short answer: healthcare apps earn trust by design: consent first, private calls, AI that shows its sources, safety rules built into the product, early warnings and help one tap away. Those are the lessons from MiDAS, the home healthcare app we built for Prana Healthcare in 12 weeks, from idea to production.
The brief
Prana Healthcare has looked after Bengaluru families since 2013, with doctors, trained home nurses and physiotherapists who come to the patient. Prana asked us to bring every part of that care into one app, MiDAS, for three groups of people: families who book care, doctors who consult, and nurses who look after patients at home.
Lesson 1: design for every person in the room
Healthcare has many users with different needs. Families want reassurance and simplicity, doctors want the facts fast, and nurses need a clear plan for the day. MiDAS has a family app, a doctor portal and a nurse app, each designed around its own work.

Lesson 2: consent first
Families choose exactly what a doctor sees, and photos of care are opt-in. Consent is a screen people understand, not a clause in the terms.
Lesson 3: keep calls private
Video and voice consultations run inside MiDAS, so families and doctors never share phone numbers, and calls are not recorded.
Lesson 4: AI that shows its work
Before each call, the MiDAS brief summarises the booking reason, conditions, allergies and the family's own words. Every line shows where it came from, and the doctor can flag any line that is wrong. In healthcare, an AI summary is only useful if it can be checked.
Lesson 5: put safety rules in the product
Medicines that need an in-person visit are blocked on a first consultation, and every prescription is reviewed and digitally signed with the doctor's registration number. Rules that live in the software are followed every time.

Lesson 6: warn early, help fast
Readings outside the doctor's ranges show in red and alert Prana's care team. Emergency 108 and Prana's care team are always one tap away.
How we built it
